Charles Wheatstone

Charles Wheatstone (1802–1875) was an English scientist and inventor whose work spanned electrical measurement, telegraphy, stereoscopy, and musical instruments.

Wheatstone bridge: An electrical circuit for measuring an unknown resistance by balancing two branches against a known reference. This measuring circuit became the invention most closely associated with Wheatstone’s name.
Electric telegraph: A system that sends coded messages over wires using electrical signals. Wheatstone helped develop and deploy this technology for rapid long-distance communication.
