Charlie Kaufman

Charlie Kaufman is an American screenwriter, director, and producer whose films often bend narrative form to explore identity, memory, creativity, and anxiety.

Being John Malkovich: A 1999 fantasy comedy film about a portal into actor John Malkovich’s mind. Kaufman’s breakthrough screenplay turns questions of identity into an absurd portal premise.
Unreliable narrator: A narrator whose account cannot be fully trusted because of limited knowledge, bias, deception, or instability. Kaufman uses unstable viewpoints to make a film’s apparent reality difficult to settle.
