Chersky Range

The Chersky Range is a mountain system in northeastern Siberia, extending across northeastern Yakutia and Magadan Oblast. Its rugged terrain includes the region’s highest peak, Mount Pobeda.

Northeastern Siberia: The northeastern part of Siberia, encompassing areas of the Russian Far East and eastern Yakutia. The range occupies this remote continental region.
North American Plate: A major lithospheric plate that underlies North America and extends into the Arctic and northeastern Siberia. Its interaction with the Eurasian Plate contributes to regional deformation.
Mount Pobeda: A peak in the Chersky Range and the highest mountain in northeastern Siberia. It is the range’s highest summit, rising above 3,000 metres.
Northeast Arctic National Park: A protected area in northeastern Yakutia established to conserve Arctic and mountain landscapes. Its conservation goals encompass ecosystems adjoining the range.
Seismology: The scientific study of earthquakes and the generation and propagation of seismic waves. It helps investigate earthquakes in the active Chersky seismic region.
Yakutia: A republic of Russia in northeastern Siberia, officially known as the Sakha Republic. Much of the range lies within Yakutia.
Eurasian Plate: A major lithospheric plate underlying most of Europe and Asia. The range lies within a tectonically active zone near its boundary with the North American Plate.
Suntar-Khayata Range: A mountain range in northeastern Russia, south of the Chersky Range and near the Sea of Okhotsk. It is a neighboring highland system, distinct from the Chersky Range.
Russian Arctic National Park: A large protected area in the Russian Arctic, chiefly on islands of the Barents and Kara seas. It offers a contrast between coastal Arctic conservation and the range’s continental mountain habitats.
Earthquake hazard: The potential for damaging ground shaking and related effects caused by earthquakes. Active faults make seismic risk a continuing concern around the range.
