Chester W. Nimitz

Chester W. Nimitz (1885–1966) was an American admiral who commanded Allied naval forces in the Pacific during World War II and served as chief of naval operations from 1945 to 1947.

Raymond A. Spruance: A U.S. Navy admiral who commanded major carrier and amphibious forces in the Pacific during World War II. Nimitz entrusted Spruance with the Fifth Fleet and key operations, including the campaigns at Midway and Okinawa.
Pacific Ocean Areas: The Allied command led by Nimitz that directed operations across much of the central and north Pacific during World War II. This was the principal theater command through which Nimitz coordinated his Pacific campaign.
Attack on Pearl Harbor: The Japanese air and naval attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The attack preceded Nimitz’s appointment as commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet.
