Chishti Order

The Chishti Order is a Sunni Sufi tradition founded in Chisht, Afghanistan. It is known for spiritual discipline, love, tolerance, and devotional music.

Chisht: A town in present-day Afghanistan associated with the origin of the Chishti Sufi tradition. The order takes its name from this Afghan town.
Sama (Sufism): A Sufi devotional practice of listening to music, poetry, or recitation as a means of spiritual attention. Chishti gatherings made sama a prominent form of devotion.
Fariduddin Ganjshakar: A Punjabi Sufi saint of the Chishti tradition, also known as Baba Farid. His poetry and teaching helped establish Chishti influence in Punjab.

Dargah: A shrine built around the tomb of a revered Muslim saint or spiritual figure. Dargahs are the principal public sites of Chishti pilgrimage and devotion.
Naqshbandiyya: A Sunni Sufi order known for silent dhikr and a lineage tracing through Central Asia. Its emphasis on silent remembrance contrasts with Chishti use of devotional music.
