Chocolate milk
Chocolate milk is a sweetened milk drink flavored with cocoa or chocolate. It is served cold or warm, either ready-made or mixed from ingredients.
Cocoa powder: Cocoa powder is the dry material made by pressing cocoa solids from cocoa liquor and grinding them. It supplies chocolate flavor without the fat content of chocolate bars.
Suspension (chemistry): A suspension is a mixture in which solid particles are dispersed through a fluid without dissolving. Cocoa particles remain suspended rather than dissolving completely in milk.
Post-exercise nutrition: Post-exercise nutrition is the intake of food and drink after physical activity to support recovery. Chocolate milk has been studied as a convenient source of carbohydrate, fluid, and protein after exercise.
Chocolate milkshake: A chocolate milkshake is a cold, thick drink made by blending milk with ice cream or other ingredients. It is typically richer and thicker than ordinary chocolate milk.
Milk: Milk is a nutrient-rich liquid produced by mammary glands to feed young mammals. It provides the drink's base, protein, fat, and characteristic pale color.
Sedimentation: Sedimentation is the settling of suspended particles under gravity. It explains why cocoa can collect at the bottom of an unstirred drink.
School milk program: A school milk program distributes milk to students, often to support nutrition or encourage dairy consumption. Flavored milk has been included in some programs to increase students' milk consumption.
Hot chocolate: Hot chocolate is a warm beverage made with chocolate or cocoa and a liquid, commonly milk or water. It shares chocolate flavor but is generally served hot and prepared as a separate beverage.
Sucrose: Sucrose is a disaccharide sugar composed of glucose and fructose. It is a common sweetener that balances cocoa's bitterness.
Emulsion: An emulsion is a mixture of liquids that do not normally mix, with one dispersed as droplets in the other. Milk fat exists as droplets, while stabilizers can help maintain a uniform drink.
