Chongming Island

Chongming Island is an alluvial island in the Yangtze River estuary, administered as Chongming District of Shanghai. It is one of the world's largest river islands.

Yangtze River: The longest river in Asia, flowing east across China into the East China Sea. The river’s sediment and flow shaped Chongming Island at its estuary.
Sediment transport: The movement of mineral and organic particles by water, wind, ice, or gravity. Yangtze currents carry the material from which Chongming’s landforms grow.
