Christianization of Bulgaria

The First Bulgarian Empire’s adoption of Christianity under Boris I, beginning in 864 or 865. It reorganized the state’s religious life and tied Bulgaria to the Christian world.

Boris I of Bulgaria: The Bulgarian ruler who adopted Christianity, negotiated with foreign churches, and established the foundations of a Bulgarian Christian church. His conversion and policies initiated the empire-wide religious transformation.
