Christianization of the Franks

The gradual adoption of Christianity among Frankish rulers and communities, beginning with royal conversion and expanding through missionary work, church institutions, and political change.

Clovis I: King of the Franks who united much of Gaul and adopted Catholic Christianity around the turn of the sixth century. His conversion gave Catholic bishops a powerful Frankish royal patron.
Late antiquity: The transitional period between classical antiquity and the Middle Ages, conventionally dated from the third to eighth centuries. Frankish conversion took shape amid the transformation of Roman institutions and Christian communities.
