Chukotka Autonomous Okrug

Chukotka Autonomous Okrug is a federal subject of Russia on the northeastern tip of Siberia, across the Bering Strait from Alaska. Its Arctic and Pacific coasts include Russia’s easternmost mainland point.

Bering Strait: A narrow sea passage separating northeastern Asia from northwestern North America. This strait forms Chukotka’s maritime boundary with Alaska.
Arctic climate: The climate regime of high northern latitudes, characterized by cold conditions and strong seasonal contrasts. Arctic conditions govern much of Chukotka’s seasonal life.

Bering Sea: A northern Pacific marginal sea bordered by Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, and eastern Siberia. Its waters meet Chukotka along the region’s southeastern coast.
Northern Sea Route: A maritime route along Russia’s Arctic coast linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It offers a seasonal shipping corridor beside Chukotka’s northern coast.
