Chyme

Chyme is the semifluid mixture of partially digested food and gastric juices formed in the stomach and passed into the small intestine.

Gastric peristalsis: Rhythmic contractions of the stomach wall that mix its contents and propel them toward the pylorus. These contractions churn food with gastric secretions to form chyme.
Gastric juice: A stomach secretion containing hydrochloric acid, digestive enzymes, mucus, and other substances. Gastric juice combines with food to make chyme.
Small intestine: The digestive tract region where most nutrient digestion and absorption occur. It receives chyme and extracts nutrients as digestion continues.
Feces: The solid or semisolid waste remaining after digestion and intestinal absorption. Feces are the final waste product, unlike chyme entering the small intestine.
Gastric acid: Hydrochloric acid secreted by the stomach that creates a strongly acidic gastric environment. It acidifies chyme and helps unfold dietary proteins before intestinal digestion.
Mechanical digestion: The physical breakdown and mixing of food without changing its chemical composition. Stomach churning physically reduces and mixes food before it leaves as chyme.
Bile: A liver-produced digestive fluid that helps disperse dietary fats in the small intestine. Bile mixes with chyme in the duodenum to aid fat digestion.
Chyle: A milky lymphatic fluid rich in absorbed fats, formed in the small intestine. Chyle forms during intestinal fat absorption; chyme is stomach content entering the intestine.
Pepsin: A stomach enzyme that breaks proteins into smaller peptides. Its protein digestion contributes to the partially digested material in chyme.
Chemical digestion: The enzymatic and chemical breakdown of food molecules into smaller substances. Chemical digestion begins in the stomach and continues after chyme enters the intestine.
