Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman is an American photographer and filmmaker whose staged photographs use her own transformations to examine identity, gender, and visual culture.

Untitled Film Stills: A 1977–1980 series of black-and-white photographs depicting Sherman as fictional women in scenes resembling film stills. This breakthrough series established her use of staged roles and cinematic conventions.
Staged photography: Photography in which scenes are deliberately arranged or performed for the camera. Sherman's images are constructed scenes, not candid records of an external subject.
