Cistercians

The Cistercians are a Catholic monastic order founded in 1098 to follow the Rule of Saint Benedict with greater austerity, communal discipline, and separation from worldly life.

Rule of Saint Benedict: A sixth-century monastic rule that organizes communal life around prayer, obedience, work, and stability. Cistercian reform sought a stricter observance of this foundational rule.
