Clarence Birdseye

Clarence Birdseye was an American inventor and entrepreneur whose rapid freezing methods helped establish the modern frozen-food industry.

Quick freezing: A method that freezes food rapidly to limit the formation of large ice crystals and preserve texture. Birdseye’s methods applied rapid freezing to packaged foods for commercial distribution.
Labrador: A region of eastern Canada forming the mainland part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Birdseye observed rapid freezing of fish in Labrador’s severe winter conditions.
