Classical music recording captures performances as sound and preserves or distributes them through physical media or digital formats. It encompasses choices about performers, repertoire, acoustics, microphones, editing, and playback.

Microphone techniques: Methods for positioning and combining microphones to capture sound sources and their acoustic surroundings. Microphone placement determines the balance between instruments, hall reverberation, and direct sound.
