Classroom
A room or designated space where teachers guide learning and students engage with instruction, discussion, and other educational activities.
Teacher: A person who guides learning by presenting knowledge, designing activities, and supporting students. Teachers organize instruction and relationships within the classroom.
Early childhood education: Education for young children, generally from birth through the early primary years. Its classrooms emphasize development, play, and routines suited to young learners.
Montessori education: An educational approach emphasizing self-directed activity, prepared environments, and mixed-age learning. Montessori classrooms organize materials and student choice differently from conventional rooms.
Learning environment: The physical, social, and instructional conditions in which learning occurs. A classroom is one bounded setting within the broader learning environment.
Student: A person enrolled in learning, especially in a school or other educational institution. Students are the learners whose participation gives classroom activities their purpose.
Laboratory: A space equipped for scientific experiments, measurement, or technical work. Science classrooms may function as laboratories for hands-on investigation.
Open-plan school: A school design that uses large, minimally partitioned teaching areas instead of enclosed classrooms. Open-plan schools challenge the assumption that learning requires separate rooms.
Classroom climate: The shared social and emotional character of interactions in a classroom. Daily interactions create a climate that can support or hinder participation.
Lesson plan: A structured outline of learning objectives, activities, materials, and assessment for a lesson. Lesson plans turn classroom goals into a sequence of activities.
Computer lab: A room equipped with computers for instruction, practice, or digital work. Computer labs specialize classroom activity around shared computing equipment.
