Claudio Monteverdi

Claudio Monteverdi (1567–1643) was an Italian composer whose expressive madrigals, sacred music, and operas helped shape the transition from Renaissance to Baroque music.

Renaissance music: European music composed roughly between the 15th and early 17th centuries, marked by imitative polyphony and balanced vocal writing. Monteverdi began within this tradition before reshaping its vocal style.
