Claus Sluter

Claus Sluter was a sculptor active in Burgundy around 1400. His monumental, naturalistic figures, especially those on the Well of Moses at Champmol, helped shape late medieval sculpture.

Well of Moses: A monumental sculptural ensemble by Claus Sluter at the Chartreuse de Champmol, centered on a decorated well and six Old Testament prophets. Its prophets and surviving polychromy make it Sluter’s defining work.
