Knowra Close-quarters combat Close-quarters combat Close-quarters combat is fighting at very short range, often in confined spaces, where limited visibility and reaction time shape movement, weapon use, and coordination.
Room clearing : A coordinated method of entering and searching rooms while managing threats and protecting team members. It is a specific form of close-quarters combat in enclosed spaces.
Urban warfare : Armed conflict fought in towns and cities, where buildings, civilians, and infrastructure shape military operations. Urban fighting frequently creates close-range encounters inside and between buildings.
Melee : Hand-to-hand or weapon-to-weapon fighting at very short range. Melee can occur in close quarters, but close-quarters combat also includes firearms.
Civilian casualties : Deaths and injuries among people who are not members of armed forces or organized armed groups. Confined urban settings can place civilians near combatants and weapons.
Force-on-force training : Training that uses opposing teams and realistic marking systems to simulate armed encounters. It tests decisions and coordination under pressure more realistically than static drills.
Hostage rescue : An operation intended to free people held against their will while limiting harm to hostages and others. Rescue operations may require action in confined spaces with little time to identify threats.
Hand-to-hand combat : Physical fighting between people without firearms, often using strikes, grappling, or edged weapons. It is one possible component, not a synonym for all close-quarters combat.
Rules of engagement : Directives that define when and how military personnel may use force. Ambiguous identities and nearby civilians make force decisions especially consequential.
Situational awareness : The perception and understanding of relevant features in an environment, together with projection of their near-future status. Rapidly changing threats and limited sightlines make awareness difficult to maintain.
Military simulation : The use of models, exercises, or simulated environments to study and train for military operations. Simulations let units rehearse close-range decisions without live combat.
