Coelurosauria

Coelurosauria is a diverse theropod dinosaur group that includes birds and their closest non-avian relatives, among them tyrannosaurs, ornithomimids, and dromaeosaurs.

Theropoda: Theropoda is a dinosaur group that includes birds and predominantly bipedal carnivorous species. Coelurosauria is one major branch within this broader dinosaur group.
Feathered dinosaurs: Feathered dinosaurs are dinosaurs known to have had feathers or feather-like coverings. Feathers occur across multiple coelurosaur branches, not only among birds.
Tyrannosaurus: Tyrannosaurus is a large tyrannosaurid theropod dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of western North America. It is a famous example of a large-bodied coelurosaur.
Jurassic: The Jurassic is a geologic period lasting from about 201 to 145 million years ago. The group's early history and several early coelurosaur fossils date to this period.
Carnosauria: Carnosauria is a theropod group that includes allosauroids and their close relatives. Carnosaurs form the principal sister branch to Coelurosauria within Avetheropoda.
Maniraptora: Maniraptora is a coelurosaur group that includes birds and several close non-avian relatives. This branch contains the closest non-avian relatives of birds.
Furcula: The furcula is a paired clavicle fused into a wishbone-shaped bone in many theropods and birds. Its presence in many coelurosaurs is one anatomical clue to shared ancestry.
Velociraptor: Velociraptor is a small dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur known from Late Cretaceous deposits in Asia. This dromaeosaur illustrates the bird-like anatomy found in some non-avian coelurosaurs.
Cretaceous: The Cretaceous is a geologic period lasting from about 145 to 66 million years ago. Many familiar coelurosaur groups diversified during this period.
Allosauroidea: Allosauroidea is a group of large-bodied theropods that includes Allosaurus and carcharodontosaurids. These formidable predators are outside Coelurosauria despite similar ecological roles to tyrannosaurs.
