Collective model

A nuclear model that explains atomic nuclei through coordinated motion of many nucleons, especially collective rotation and vibration, rather than independent-particle motion alone.

Nuclear deformation: A departure of a nucleus from spherical shape, commonly described by its quadrupole deformation. Deformation gives a nucleus the shape needed for collective rotational motion.
Atomic nucleus: The dense, positively charged center of an atom, composed of protons and neutrons. The collective model describes the structure and motion of this many-particle system.
Aage Bohr: A Danish physicist who developed key theories of nuclear structure and collective motion. His work formalized how collective nuclear states relate to intrinsic motion.
