Collectivism

Collectivism is a political or social outlook that gives priority to groups and shared interests over individual autonomy or interests.

Individualism: A political and social outlook that gives priority to individual autonomy, rights, or interests. It places individual autonomy where collectivism places group priorities.
Collective ownership: An arrangement in which assets are owned by a group or by society rather than by private individuals. It gives shared control of productive resources a concrete institutional form.
Group: A set of people connected by shared identity, activity, relationships, or purpose. Collectivism assigns priority to groups, though they can differ greatly in scale and character.
Social solidarity: The bonds and mutual commitments that hold members of a society or group together. Shared priorities can strengthen the sense of mutual responsibility among members.
Liberalism: A political tradition that emphasizes individual rights, constitutional limits, and political equality. Liberalism often treats individual rights as constraints on collective goals.
Cooperative: An enterprise owned and democratically controlled by the people who use it or work in it. Cooperatives organize economic activity around shared ownership and member interests.
Common good: The conditions and shared goods that enable members of a community to flourish together. It names a frequent justification for placing shared interests above private advantage.
Free rider problem: A collective-action problem in which people benefit from a shared good without contributing to its provision. Collective aims often depend on contributions that individuals may have incentives to withhold.
Communitarianism: A political philosophy that emphasizes community ties and shared social practices in shaping identity and obligations. It grounds social obligations in community without necessarily subordinating every individual interest.
Trade union: An organization through which workers collectively represent and defend their employment interests. Unions pursue workers’ shared interests through organized bargaining.
