Collis Potter Huntington

Collis Potter Huntington (1821–1900) was an American railroad magnate and financier who helped build the Central Pacific Railroad and founded the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway.

Central Pacific Railroad: A railroad company that built the western portion of the first transcontinental railroad across the United States. Huntington was one of its four principal organizers and directed its eastern financing and political dealings.
Pacific Railroad Acts: Federal laws that provided land grants and government bonds to support construction of the first transcontinental railroad. These acts supplied the Central Pacific with public support for the line Huntington helped build.
Leland Stanford: An American businessman and politician who was a founder of the Central Pacific Railroad and governor of California. Stanford partnered with Huntington in organizing the Central Pacific and navigating California politics.
