Colombian Liberal Party

Founded in 1848, the Colombian Liberal Party is one of Colombia’s two historic major parties, associated especially with federalism, secular reform, and expanded civil liberties.

José Eusebio Caro: A Colombian writer and politician who helped found the Conservative Party in 1849. His party’s formation soon after the Liberals’ founding established Colombia’s enduring two-party rivalry.
