Color harmony

Color harmony is the arrangement of colors perceived as balanced or coherent within an image. It depends on relationships among hues, lightness, saturation, and context.

Color: Color is the visual experience associated with the wavelength composition of light reaching the eye. Harmony concerns relationships among colors, not isolated hues.
Color wheel: A color wheel is a circular diagram that organizes hues according to their relationships. It makes hue intervals behind complementary and analogous schemes easy to inspect.
Color theory: Color theory is the study of color relationships and their use in visual composition. Color harmony is one practical concern within this broader body of ideas.
Color discord: Color discord is a deliberate or perceived clash among colors in a composition. It marks the opposite effect, though dissonance can be used intentionally for emphasis.
Hue: Hue is the attribute of color commonly described by names such as red, green, or blue. Hue relationships underpin familiar harmony schemes such as complementary and analogous colors.
Complementary colors: Complementary colors are pairs positioned opposite each other in a specified color model. Their opposition creates a strong contrast often used within harmonious compositions.
Color scheme: A color scheme is a planned selection of colors used together in a design or image. Schemes translate harmony goals into a repeatable palette selection.
Color contrast: Color contrast is the perceived difference between colors placed near one another. Strong contrast can coexist with harmony, but the two describe different properties.
Colorfulness: Colorfulness is the perceived degree to which a color appears chromatic rather than neutral. Differences in colorfulness can make a palette feel vivid, muted, or uneven.
Analogous colors: Analogous colors are neighboring hues on a color wheel or within a related color system. Their small hue differences often produce visually unified palettes.
