Comic strip

A short work of sequential art that tells a story or makes a joke through images, often arranged in panels with captions or dialogue.

Panel (comics): A bounded image in a comic that presents a moment, action, or scene. Panels divide a strip into visual units and control how its action unfolds.
Visual narrative: Storytelling that conveys events primarily through images and their arrangement. The strip’s narrative depends on readers interpreting pictures in sequence.
The Yellow Kid: A comic character created by Richard F. Outcault, associated with the rise of newspaper comics in the 1890s. Its newspaper appearances helped establish the comic strip as a mass-market form.

Newspaper comics: Comics published in newspapers, including recurring strips and standalone cartoon panels. Newspapers provided the print venue in which the modern strip flourished.
Webcomic: A comic published primarily on the internet, often using formats designed for digital screens. Digital publication frees strips from newspaper dimensions and schedules.
