Common good

The shared conditions and ends that benefit a political community and its members. It concerns goods pursued or sustained together, rather than benefits considered only as private possessions.

Civic virtue: Habits and dispositions that support participation in public life and the pursuit of civic aims. The common good depends on citizens who accept responsibilities beyond private advantage.
Public goods: Goods that are non-excludable and non-rivalrous, so one person's use does not prevent another's. They are a specific economic case of benefits available to a community broadly.
Individualism: A family of views that gives priority to the individual in explaining value, rights, or social organization. It challenges accounts that treat shared ends as prior to individual aims.
Environmental protection: Policies and practices that prevent or reduce harm to ecosystems and natural resources. Clean air, water, and stable ecosystems provide benefits that cross property lines and generations.
Solidarity: A commitment to mutual support grounded in shared identity, interests, or vulnerability. Solidarity explains why members may bear costs for people outside their immediate circle.
Commons: Resources shared by a community and governed through collective rules or practices. Commons show how shared benefits can depend on coordinated stewardship.
Utilitarianism: The ethical theory that judges actions or policies by their contribution to overall well-being. It can reduce the common good to an aggregate of individual welfare.
Public health: The organized effort to protect and improve the health of populations. Disease prevention and sanitation create shared conditions that individual care alone cannot secure.
Subsidiarity: The principle that decisions should remain with the smallest competent social unit, with larger bodies providing support when needed. It asks how pursuit of shared goods can respect local agency.
Civil society: The sphere of voluntary associations and social activity distinct from the state and market. Associations outside government and commerce can organize shared aims and mutual aid.
