Community card poker

Community card poker is a poker format in which players combine private cards with shared face-up cards to make the best hand. The shared cards are dealt in stages and can be used by multiple players.

Texas hold 'em: A community card poker game in which each player receives two private cards and may use five shared cards. Its two private cards and five-card board are the format’s best-known arrangement.
Hole cards: Cards dealt face down to an individual player and unavailable to opponents. They distinguish each player’s private information from the shared board.
Draw poker: A poker family in which players receive private hands and may replace some cards during play. Unlike community card games, players generally improve hands by drawing replacements.
Poker tournament: A poker competition in which players pay an entry and play for a share of a prize pool. Community card games, especially hold 'em, are commonly played in tournament form.
Omaha hold 'em: A community card poker game in which each player receives four private cards and must use exactly two with three board cards. Its exact-two-card rule shows how a variant can change hand construction.
Community cards: Face-up cards placed in the center for eligible players to use in forming hands. They are the shared resource at the heart of this poker format.
Stud poker: A poker family in which players receive a mix of face-up and face-down individual cards, with no shared board. Its exposed cards belong to particular players rather than being shared.
Cash game (poker): A poker game in which chips represent money and players may usually join or leave between hands. It uses the same card format without tournament elimination and escalating blind levels.
Flop: The first three shared cards dealt face up in Texas hold 'em and Omaha. It begins the staged reveal of the community cards.
Poker betting: The wagering process in poker, through which players bet, call, raise, or fold. Betting rounds occur between successive reveals of shared cards.
