Community of Christ

Community of Christ is a Christian denomination descended from the Latter Day Saint movement. Formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it emphasizes peace, justice, and inclusive community.

Latter Day Saint movement: A religious movement founded by Joseph Smith in the United States during the 1820s and 1830s. Community of Christ emerged from this movement after Smith’s death.
Book of Mormon: A scripture published by Joseph Smith in 1830, presented as an account of ancient peoples in the Americas. It remains part of the denomination’s canon alongside the Bible.
Peace and Justice Ministries (Community of Christ): Community of Christ programs that support peacemaking, social justice, and compassionate service. These ministries put the denomination’s peace and justice commitments into practice.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: The largest church in the Latter Day Saint movement, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. It followed Brigham Young, while Community of Christ developed from a different succession claim.

Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: A Latter Day Saint fundamentalist denomination known for retaining plural marriage. Its commitment to plural marriage contrasts with Community of Christ’s rejection of the practice.
Open communion: The practice of welcoming Christians to receive communion without requiring membership in the administering church. Community of Christ welcomes all to its communion, reflecting its inclusive approach to worship.
