Community

A group of people connected through shared place, identity, practices, interests, or relationships. Communities vary in scale, boundaries, and how strongly members interact.

Social identity: A person’s sense of who they are, shaped partly by membership in social groups. A shared identity can bind members even when they live far apart.

Online community: A group whose members interact and form relationships through internet-based platforms. Digital interaction can sustain community without members sharing a physical location.
Organization: A coordinated group with defined roles and procedures pursuing particular goals. Organizations rely on formal roles, while communities may form through informal ties.
Collective efficacy: A group’s shared belief in its capacity to act together toward common goals. Trust and willingness to intervene can help communities address local problems.
