Comoro Islands

The Comoro Islands are an archipelago in the Mozambique Channel between Madagascar and mainland Africa, comprising the Union of the Comoros and the French department of Mayotte.

Union of the Comoros: A sovereign island country in the Comoros archipelago, comprising Grande Comore, Anjouan, and Mohéli. It governs three of the archipelago’s principal islands.
Comoros hotspot: A mantle plume beneath the western Indian Ocean associated with volcanic activity in the Comoro Islands. It helps explain the islands’ volcanic origin.
