Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership is a trade agreement among Pacific Rim countries that took effect in 2018 after the United States withdrew from its predecessor.

Tariff: A tax imposed on imported or exported goods. The agreement phases out many tariffs on trade among its members.
Trans-Pacific Partnership: A proposed Pacific Rim trade agreement signed in 2016 but never brought into force. The CPTPP preserves most of this predecessor’s text after the United States withdrew.
