Confederation of the Rhine

The Confederation of the Rhine was a French-dominated alliance of German states created under Napoleon in 1806. It dissolved in 1813 after Napoleon’s defeat at Leipzig.

Treaty of Pressburg: The 1805 peace treaty that confirmed Austria’s defeat by France and preceded Napoleon’s reorganization of German states. Its territorial changes set the stage for Napoleon’s alliance of German rulers.
Rheinbundakte: The 1806 act establishing the Confederation of the Rhine and setting out its member states’ obligations. Its provisions explain how the alliance bound German rulers to Napoleon.
