Constance Markievicz

Constance Markievicz was an Irish revolutionary, socialist politician, and suffragist. Elected to the British House of Commons in 1918, she did not take her seat, in keeping with Sinn Féin’s abstentionist policy.

James Connolly: An Irish socialist and labor leader who helped organize the Easter Rising. Connolly and Markievicz worked together in the Irish Citizen Army and the 1916 uprising.
Lissadell House: A neoclassical country house in County Sligo, Ireland, built for the Gore-Booth family. Markievicz grew up at Lissadell before rejecting the social world associated with her family.
Easter Rising: An armed insurrection in Dublin in April 1916 seeking to end British rule in Ireland. Markievicz served as an officer in the Irish Citizen Army during the uprising.
