Constance Tipper

Constance Tipper (1894–1995) was a British metallurgist whose research on metal fracture shaped the study of steel toughness. The Tipper test bears her name.

Tipper test: A test developed by Constance Tipper to assess steel's resistance to brittle fracture. This named test translated her research on fracture into an assessment of steel toughness.
Ductile–brittle transition: A temperature-dependent change in a material's fracture behavior from ductile to brittle. The transition helps explain why steel that deforms safely in one condition can fracture suddenly in another.
