Knowra Construction management Construction management Construction management is the planning, coordination, and control of a construction project from early planning through completion. It integrates scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, and project participants.
Construction project management : The management of a specific construction project’s scope, schedule, budget, quality, and participants. This is the project-level practice at the center of construction management.
Construction management at risk : A delivery method in which a construction manager advises during design and later acts as the builder, often with a guaranteed maximum price. It gives the manager early input while placing defined cost and delivery risks on that firm.
Construction project : A time-limited undertaking to build, alter, or demolish a physical structure or infrastructure asset. Construction management organizes the temporary work needed to deliver this undertaking.
Design–bid–build : A delivery method in which design is completed before a separate contractor is selected through bidding. Its sequential phases differ from arrangements that involve builders during design.
Construction delay : A project schedule overrun that postpones planned construction milestones or completion. Delays reveal the consequences of disrupted dependencies, resources, or decisions.
Critical path method : A scheduling technique that identifies the longest chain of dependent activities determining a project’s minimum duration. It reveals which construction activities can delay the entire completion date.
Agency construction management : A delivery arrangement in which a construction manager advises and coordinates for the owner without becoming the general contractor. It separates the owner’s management adviser from the contractors performing the work.
Project management : The application of methods and resources to achieve defined project objectives within constraints such as time, cost, and scope. Construction management applies this broader discipline to the built environment.
Construction project delivery method : The contractual structure that assigns design, construction, financing, and operational responsibilities on a project. Delivery methods define the organizational setting in which construction management operates.
Cost overrun : The amount by which actual project cost exceeds an established budget or estimate. It is a direct measure of budget-control failure or changed project conditions.
