Continental Congress

The Continental Congress was a series of assemblies of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies that coordinated resistance to Britain and governed during the American Revolution.

First Continental Congress: The 1774 assembly of colonial delegates that organized a response to British policies and called for a colonial boycott. It began intercolonial coordination before the war for independence.
Stamp Act Congress: A 1765 meeting of delegates from nine colonies that protested Parliament’s Stamp Act and asserted colonial rights. It established an earlier precedent for coordinated colonial action.
John Adams: An American lawyer and political leader who served in the Continental Congress and later became the second U.S. president. He argued for independence and helped shape congressional policy during the Revolution.

Townshend Acts: A series of 1767 British laws that taxed imports into the American colonies and heightened colonial opposition. Their enforcement deepened the political conflict that congresses later addressed.
