Coonhound

Coonhounds are American scent hounds developed chiefly to track raccoons and other game, often pursuing quarry until it climbs a tree and then baying.

Scent hound: A hound that locates and follows animals chiefly by scent. Coonhounds belong to this broader type of hunting dog.
Black and Tan Coonhound: An American coonhound breed known for its black-and-tan coat and trailing ability. It is one of the best-known breeds within the coonhound group.
Foxhound: A scent hound bred to pursue foxes, especially in organized hunts. Foxhounds supplied important ancestry for several American coonhound breeds.
Night hunting: Hunting conducted after dark, often using dogs to locate nocturnal animals. Raccoon hunting commonly relies on coonhounds working at night.

English Foxhound: A British foxhound breed developed for pursuing foxes by scent in a pack. Its descendants contributed to American hounds adapted for raccoon hunting.
Big-game hunting: The pursuit of large wild animals for food, management, or sport. Some coonhound breeds, especially the Plott Hound, are used to track larger quarry.
Bloodhound: A large scent hound renowned for tracking human scent over long distances. Its tracking is commonly directed at people rather than game that climbs trees.
