Copper(II) oxide

Copper(II) oxide (CuO) is a black inorganic compound in which copper has the +2 oxidation state. It is a semiconductor and a common copper ore mineral.

Copper: Copper is a reddish chemical element with atomic number 29, valued for its electrical conductivity and chemical versatility. CuO contains copper in the +2 oxidation state.
Copper oxidation: Copper oxidation is the reaction in which copper loses electrons, often forming copper oxides in air. Heating copper in oxygen can produce CuO.

Hydrogen reduction: Hydrogen reduction uses hydrogen gas to remove oxygen from a compound, producing water. Hydrogen converts CuO to metallic copper while forming water.
