Corded Ware culture

A prehistoric archaeological culture of late Neolithic and early Bronze Age Europe, named for cord-impressed pottery and associated with single-grave or barrow burials.

Cord-impressed pottery: Pottery decorated by pressing twisted cord into its surface before firing. These impressions give the Corded Ware culture its name and provide a diagnostic artifact.
Yamnaya culture: A pastoralist archaeological culture of the Pontic–Caspian steppe during the early Bronze Age. Ancient DNA links substantial steppe ancestry in Corded Ware groups to populations related to Yamnaya.
Globular Amphora culture: A late Neolithic culture of central and eastern Europe known for globular pottery and collective burials. Its earlier presence in parts of the same region complicates simple accounts of Corded Ware origins.
Indo-European homeland: The proposed original region from which Indo-European languages spread. Corded Ware's steppe ancestry bears on, but cannot alone determine, homeland hypotheses.
