Córdoba

Córdoba is a city in Andalusia, southern Spain, that became the political center of Umayyad al-Andalus and a major center of learning and architecture.

Umayyad conquest of Hispania: The Muslim-led conquest that brought most of the Iberian Peninsula under Umayyad rule beginning in 711. The conquest placed Córdoba within the new Islamic province of al-Andalus.
Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba: A Córdoba monument begun as a mosque in the eighth century and converted into a cathedral after the Christian conquest. Its fabric records the city's transformation from Umayyad capital to Christian city.
