Coreidae
Coreidae is a family of true bugs, commonly called leaf-footed bugs. Many species have enlarged or leaf-like hind legs and feed on plants.
Hemiptera: Hemiptera is an order of insects with piercing-sucking mouthparts, including true bugs, aphids, and cicadas. Coreidae is one family within this diverse order.
Piercing-sucking mouthparts: Piercing-sucking mouthparts are tubular feeding structures that penetrate tissues and draw out fluids. Coreids use these mouthparts to feed from plant tissues and seeds.
Leptoglossus occidentalis: Leptoglossus occidentalis, the western conifer seed bug, is a North American coreid that feeds on developing conifer seeds. It damages seed crops and has spread beyond its native range.
Pentatomidae: Pentatomidae is a family of true bugs commonly called stink bugs, often recognized by their broad, shield-shaped bodies. Coreids tend to have more elongated bodies and distinctive hind legs.
