Corinth Canal

The Corinth Canal is a sea-level waterway cut through the Isthmus of Corinth in Greece, connecting the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf.

Canal: An artificial waterway built to allow vessels to travel between bodies of water or across land. The Corinth Canal is a sea-level example of this waterway type.
Periander: A tyrant of Corinth who ruled in the late seventh and early sixth centuries BCE. Ancient accounts credit him with considering a canal through the isthmus.
Gulf of Corinth: A deep inlet of the Ionian Sea separating the Peloponnese from mainland Greece. The canal's western entrance opens into this gulf.
