Cornelius Ryan

Cornelius Ryan (1920–1974) was an Irish-American journalist and author whose narrative histories of World War II include The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far.

The Longest Day: Cornelius Ryan’s 1959 history of the D-Day landings, assembled from interviews and military records. His first major narrative history established his approach to reconstructing the invasion from many viewpoints.
Oral history: A method of recording and interpreting people’s firsthand accounts of the past. Interviews with participants supplied personal perspectives for Ryan’s campaign histories.
