Knowra Cosplay Cosplay Cosplay is the practice of dressing as and often performing a character from fiction, games, or popular culture. It combines costume-making, character interpretation, and public presentation.
Costume design : Costume design is the creation of clothing and accessories for performance, visual storytelling, or personal expression. It translates a character’s appearance into choices of shape, color, fabric, and detail.
Cosplay contest : A cosplay contest is an event in which participants present costumes and may be judged on craft, performance, or both. It makes costume skill and stage interpretation publicly comparable.
Morojo : Morojo was the pen name of Forrest J Ackerman’s partner Myrtle R. Douglas, a science-fiction fan and costume maker. She and Ackerman wore science-fiction costumes at the 1939 Worldcon, an early landmark in organized fan costuming.
LARP : Live-action role-playing is an activity in which participants physically portray characters within a shared fictional scenario. Both use costume and character portrayal, but LARP centers on sustained interactive play.
Prop making : Prop making is the design and construction of objects used in performance, display, or play. Cosplayers build recognizable character objects, from tools and weapons to symbolic accessories.
Cosplay photography : Cosplay photography is the creation of photographs featuring cosplayers in costume, often posed as their characters. Images give costumes a setting and audience beyond convention floors.
Worldcon : Worldcon is the annual World Science Fiction Convention, a gathering organized by science-fiction fans since 1939. Its early costume events helped establish fan costuming as a convention activity.
Theater costume : A theater costume is clothing designed for an actor’s role in a staged theatrical production. Both dress performers as characters, while theater costumes are usually made for a production rather than fan self-expression.
Character acting : Character acting is the portrayal of a fictional or scripted person through voice, movement, and expression. Performance can extend a costume into a recognizable interpretation of its character.
Cosplay commission : A cosplay commission is paid work in which a maker creates or alters a costume or prop for another person. Commissioning lets participants obtain specialized costume work without making every piece themselves.
