Council communism

Council communism is a Marxist current that treats workers’ councils as the basis of revolutionary organization and social administration. It rejects party rule over workers as a substitute for their direct self-management.

Workers' council: A representative assembly of workers, usually elected in workplaces, that coordinates collective decisions and action. The council is the institution council communists place at the center of revolutionary power.
German Revolution of 1918–1919: A revolutionary upheaval that ended the German Empire and produced workers’ and soldiers’ councils. Its councils became a central reference point for German council communists.
