Countercurrent heat exchange

Countercurrent heat exchange transfers heat between fluids flowing in opposite directions. Their opposing flows maintain a temperature difference along the exchange surface, enabling efficient heat transfer.

Heat exchanger: A device that transfers heat between fluids without necessarily mixing them. Countercurrent flow is one arrangement used inside heat exchangers.
Countercurrent exchange in animal physiology: Biological transfer between adjacent fluids moving in opposite directions. This broader physiological arrangement includes heat exchange in animal limbs and respiratory organs.
