Cretoxyrhina

Cretoxyrhina is an extinct genus of large mackerel sharks that lived in Cretaceous seas roughly 100 to 82 million years ago.

Cretoxyrhina mantelli: A species of Cretoxyrhina known from Cretaceous marine deposits, including fossils from North America. It is the best-known species and supplies much of the genus’s fossil record.
Shark tooth replacement: The continuous process by which sharks shed teeth and replace them with new ones. Repeated replacement left abundant Cretoxyrhina teeth in marine sediments.
Mackerel sharks: A group of sharks that includes fast-swimming forms such as makos and great whites. Cretoxyrhina is commonly classified within this shark lineage.
