Crustacean

A member of Crustacea, a diverse arthropod group that includes crabs, lobsters, shrimp, and barnacles. Most have jointed limbs, a hard exoskeleton, and two pairs of antennae.

Arthropod: An invertebrate animal with a segmented body, jointed appendages, and a chitinous exoskeleton. Crustaceans are one major lineage within this broader animal group.
Decapod: A crustacean in the order Decapoda, which includes crabs, lobsters, and shrimp. Decapods are the most familiar crustaceans and bear five pairs of thoracic limbs.
Crustacean larva: An immature crustacean that often differs markedly in form from the adult. Larval stages such as nauplii disperse widely before settling or transforming.
Pancrustacea: The animal clade comprising crustaceans and hexapods, including insects. Crustaceans are closely related to insects within this broader evolutionary group.

Nauplius: An early crustacean larval stage with a simple body and three pairs of appendages. The nauplius is a widespread early stage in crustacean development.
Mandibulata: An arthropod clade comprising myriapods, crustaceans, and hexapods. This larger lineage places crustaceans among arthropods with mandibles.
Shrimp farming: The commercial cultivation of shrimp in ponds or other aquatic systems. It illustrates the economic scale and environmental tradeoffs of crustacean production.
