CSS

CSS is a stylesheet language that describes how markup documents are presented, including their typography, colors, spacing, and layout.

CSS selector: A pattern that matches elements in a document tree so CSS rules can apply to them. Selectors determine which elements each CSS declaration affects.
CSS property: A named aspect of an element's style that CSS declarations can set. Properties name the visual or layout characteristics controlled by CSS.
Responsive web design: An approach to web design that adapts layouts and content to different devices and viewport sizes. CSS media queries and flexible layouts make responsive pages possible.
HTML: The standard markup language used to structure content on the World Wide Web. CSS was designed to control the presentation of HTML documents.
JavaScript: A programming language widely used to add behavior and interactivity to web pages. JavaScript handles dynamic behavior that CSS alone cannot express.
CSS cascade: The process that resolves competing CSS declarations using origin, importance, specificity, and source order. The cascade decides which declarations win when rules conflict.
CSS declaration: A CSS property paired with a value, forming a basic instruction within a rule. Declarations are the individual instructions grouped into CSS rules.
CSS Grid Layout: A CSS layout system for arranging items in two-dimensional rows and columns. Grid handles page and component layouts requiring aligned rows and columns.
Håkon Wium Lie: A Norwegian computer scientist who proposed Cascading Style Sheets in 1994. Lie proposed CSS as a way to improve control over web document presentation.
XSLT: A language for transforming XML documents into other formats, including HTML and text. XSLT transforms document structure, while CSS primarily controls presentation.
